As soon as the first hole hits you, you’ve got to be playing well.” There are several distinct choices on the second shot. The golfer has a chance to play safe to the right-hand fairway, or create a better angle to the green by going over the water to the left-hand fairway, or even trying to reach the green itself in two. The small green is fronted by a rock wall and falls gently away from the golfer fitting the natural topography. All approach shots – even the shortest – must be carefully calibrated to make par on the first hole.
